Expert Residential Smoke Detector Maintenance & Replacement
Your home’s fire safety deserves the attention of an expert, not a handyman. Leveraging 20+ years of experience in the fire service, I provide dedicated smoke alarm services focused on maximum reliability and adherence to current NFPA 72 safety codes.
I don't just "install"—I prevent and stop annoying chirps, strategically evaluate placement, verify the age and function of every unit, and ensure your system is configured for peak performance. My goal is to provide you with the most effective early-warning system possible, giving your family the critical time needed to react in an emergency.
Step One
The Professional Smoke Alarm Assessment
Rate: $150.00 (Includes full service for up to 5 existing units. Each additional unit is $20.)
I combine 20+ years of experience as a firefighter with professional safety training to ensure your smoke alarms actually work when you need them most. Most homeowners have alarms, but very few have them in the right places to detect smoke early enough to save lives.
What You Get:
A "Fire-Physics" Layout Check: I don’t just count your alarms; I audit your home’s layout to ensure there are no "dead spots." I check that you have the right number of devices and that they are positioned to detect smoke fast, based on how fire actually moves through a house.
Sensor Deep-Cleaning: Dust and cobwebs are the #1 cause of "nuisance" chirps. I vacuum the internal sensors and intake grills of every alarm to keep them sensitive and stop those annoying 3:00 AM false alarms.
Real-World Smoke Test: Pushing the "test" button only checks the battery and the horn. I use professional-grade aerosol smoke to verify that the actual sensor is still capable of "smelling" a fire.
Full Battery Service: I replace the batteries in every unit with fresh, high-quality ones, so you don't have to climb a ladder for another year.
Step Two
Replace Old or Malfunctioning Alarms
Equipment Rates (Includes Professional Installation):
$50 – 10-Year Sealed Battery Smoke Alarm
$60 – Hardwired Smoke Alarm (Direct Replacement)
$80 – Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm
Note: Equipment rates apply exclusively as an addition to the Professional Home Safety Assessment ($150).
Includes:
Strategic Placement: I don't just "swap" units. I evaluate your home’s unique architecture—including vaulted ceilings and open floor plans—to ensure every new device is placed for maximum effectiveness.
Technology Upgrades: Where hardwired locations are fixed in "prohibited" areas (like too close to a bathroom), I utilize modern photoelectric sensors. This technology is specifically designed to ignore steam and cooking vapors while remaining highly sensitive to real fire.
System Integrity Check: I provide direct replacements for existing hardwired units to maintain your home's interconnected alert system. To resolve coverage gaps where no wiring exists, I install 10-year sealed battery units to ensure your protection meets modern safety standards.
Final Function Test: A full system-wide verification to ensure all new and existing units are communicating and functioning correctly at the time of service.
Our Professional Commitment
Respect for Your Home I treat your property with the same care I’ve given the community for over two decades. I utilize drop cloths, wear shoe covers, and ensure a thorough cleanup after every installation. My goal is to leave your home safer than I found it, without leaving a trace of the work behind.
Respect for Your Time I understand that your schedule is valuable. I provide clear arrival windows, maintain prompt communication, and work efficiently to ensure your safety system is fully optimized without unnecessary disruption to your day.
Transparent Expertise If an existing alarm location is ineffective or "prohibited" by modern standards, I won’t just ignore it. I will explain the physics behind the issue and consult with you on the most practical solution. You are paying for an expert assessment, and I ensure you understand exactly how your home is being protected.
The "Fine Print" Details:
Wiring: Service is for the replacement of existing hardwired fixtures only. I do not run new high-voltage electrical wiring.
Aesthetics: While I prioritize the safest location for your protection, please note that removing older units may reveal original ceiling paint or "dust rings" from the previous hardware.
